Former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz already has a plan for when his baseball playing days are over. He’d like to play golf professionally. Smoltz, who turns 42 on May 15, told Golf Digest he’d like to make a PGA cut. But the Senior tour would be fine, too. “I’m fighting age and time, but I’m not afraid of the challenge,” said Smoltz, the only pitcher in history to have more than 200 wins and 150 saves. In 2004, Smoltz discussed the possibility of playing pro golf with the AJC. After 20 years with the Braves, Smoltz is in his first season with the Boston Red Sox. He’s expected to make a rehab start next month after off-season shoulder surgery. — Atlanta Journal-Constitution
