Golfer Tanks Hole To Let Opponent Win

May 6, 2010 at 7:43 am by Terez in Grant Whybark, Seth Doran

I did it for Seth Terez..I'm not the antichrist for gods sake..

A college golfer from the University of St. Francis purposely hit his tee shot out of bounds on the first playoff hole of individual play so that his opponent could win and qualify for the NAIA National Championship. Was this good sportsmanship or does it go against the fabric of competitive sports…Golfer Grant Whybark had this to say about why he did what he did.. “We all know Seth very well,” Whybark said, “and he not only is a very good player, but a great person as well. He’s a senior and had never been to nationals. Somehow, it just wasn’t in my heart to try to knock him out. I think some people were surprised, but my team knew what I was doing and were supportive of me. I felt Seth deserved to go (to nationals) just as much as I did.”It was one of those things where I couldn’t feel good taking something from him like this. My goal from the start was to get (to nationals) with my team. I had already done that.” How can Seth Doran possibly feel good about winning??-TO
