How about popping in this easy listening: One For My Baby (And One More For the Road) sung by … Tim McCarver? Fox’s lead baseball analyst has just released a CD of his stylings of tunes — I’ll Remember April and On a Clear Day — billed as coming from “the great American songbook.” Really. And McCarver, who was an MLB All-Star, says recording in a studio in his native Memphis wasn’t exactly like singing in the shower: “It was the hardest work I’ve ever done in my life. … I had no idea about the difficulty of arranging.” Understandable, since McCarver’s previous performances have been confined to, say, standing up at piano bars. McCarver, 67, says friends, including a record producer, suggested he tape something. “Since I’m getting older, I figured I may as well do it,” he says. McCarver finished the 14-song album in February 2008 — “then the 3,000 CDs sat in my closet because I had no idea how to sell them.” Now, they’re coming to Amazon.com, iTunes and timmccarvermusic.com. — USA Today
