Former ASU wide receiver finds fame with Old Spice commercial

I smell like a man Terez..

The Old Spice “Smell-like-a-man, man” man is Isaiah Mustafa, a wide receiver on Arizona State’s 1996 Rose Bowl team. When Mustafa read for the part the first time with the advertising agency Wieden and Kennedy, he played the part straight. The director wanted something more, and Mustafa told the Los Angeles Times that he called Plummer and left a message using the over-the-top manly man voice he used for the character. Mustafa liked it so much, he decided to use it the next day at his audition. It worked. Hey, it’s a good thing Plummer didn’t answer and tell Mustafa the voice sounded ridiculous. The 36-year-old Mustafa is proving that anything is possible. He is scheduled to appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Friday. His publicists – whom he hired just a few weeks ago to handle all the attention – are firming up a date on “Oprah” in early April. There may even be a movie in the works. “The commercial has really been a sensation,” said Simone Adams of Jeffrey Lane and Associates, the Los Angeles-based publicist representing Mustafa. “It’s just crazy.” — Arizona Republic
